And parents and swimmers were feeling the strain.
There was having to schlep up the M1 or along the A46.
Or dealing with an exhaust falling off their car just minutes into their journey.
Or the minor point of having a child lock the car keys (and swimming kit) in the car. One hour before the warm up.
The only comfort was...at least refreshments are available on the Loughborough uni campus.
There was the anxiety of getting on the blocks and aiming for a PB/place in the final/qualifying time
For some poor souls there was the 200 fly and the 400IM.
And, after last weekend's swimming and a full week of training, there was also muscle fatigue to deal with.
And yet...it won't surprise you to learn that our swimmers did us proud. They battled it out to the touch and kept going despite the pain.
And one swimmer - and we're not really condoning this - even made a concerted effort to smile for the camera. For each stroke of the 50m fly in the 200IM.
Clearly not best practice, but extremely funny.
Only one more weekend to go peeps! Keep the carbo loading going and get plenty of sleep.
Here's how you looked on the 2nd weekend of the County Champs:
